Firefox 2.0.0.7 not responding…
Firefox ad-ons are great but can be a drag on performance. In the past couple of days I, along with a multitude of others, have experienced script errors including “not responding” and Firefox simply freezing. Since these errors occurred across a variety of sites [ iGoogle, gmail, yahoo mail, WordPress for this site, Bloglines, etc. ] something was wrong with Firefox.
Start Firefox in safe mode [ in the Windows environment use Start -> Run and enter "firefox -safe-mode", for Linux use "/path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-mode", for Mac OS X it's "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -safe-mode" ]. This starts the browser without the ad-ons. If the problems are gone you can bet the ad-ons are an issue. To disable an ad-on go to tools -> Ad-ons where you can disable individual applications. You can increase performance by uninstalling or disabling the ones you don’t use. When I disabled the Google Toolbar things were back to normal. I’m sure Google will be quick to fix the problem but will leave it disabled for now. In your case it may be some other ad-on. [wb_7]
